Jose Luis Tejada Sorzano

Jose Luis Tejada Sorzano (12 January 1882-4 October 1938) was President of Bolivia from 1 December 1934 to 17 May 1936, succeeding Daniel Salamanca and preceding German Busch.

Biography[]

Jose Luis Tejada Sorzano was born in La Paz, Bolivia in 1882, and he cofounded the Bolivian Rangers soccer team in 1901. He later became a student activist and a lifelong member of the Liberal Party of Bolivia, criticizing the excesses of the mining oligarchy. He was elected to the National Congress in 1914 and briefly served as Jose Gutierrez Guerra's Finance Minister in 1919. He was elected Vice President in 1931 and became President on Daniel Salamanca's overthrow in 1934, serving as the Bolivian Army's puppet during the Chaco War. He was overthrown in May 1936 and died in exile in Chile in 1938.
