
Jose Francisco Ruiz Massieu (22 July 1946 – 28 September 1994) was Governor of Guerrero from 1 April 1987 to 31 March 1993, succeeding Alejandro Cervantes Delgado and preceding Ruben Figueroa Alcocer, and Secretary of the Institutional Revolutionary Party in 1994. He was the father of Claudia Ruiz Massieu.
Biography[]
Jose Francisco Ruiz Massieu was born in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico on 22 July 1946, and he became the brother-in-law of President Carlos Salinas de Gortari. He worked as a lawyer and a professor before becoming an Institutional Revolutionary Party politician, and he was elected Governor of Guerrero in 1987. He served until 1993, when he became PRI secretary. He was set to become the PRI majority leader in the Chamber of Deputies, but he was murdered by a gunman while leaving a PRI party meeting at the Hotel Casa Blanca in Mexico City; his death was blamed on either the cartels or corruption within his own party.
