Jose Castillo (died 2021) was a Yaran general who served as commander of the Fuerzas de Defensa Aereas (FDA) at the time of the Yaran Revolution of 2021.
Biography[]
Jose Castillo was the grandson of Gabriel Castillo and the nephew of Anton Castillo, two authoritarian rulers of Yara. He rose in the ranks of the military through nepotism, becoming commander of the Fuerzas de Defensa Aereas (FDA), Yara's air force, whose ranks included the FND's special forces. Castillo was nicknamed "Napoleón el Pequeño" ("the Little Napoleon") for his arrogance and ambition, and he was jealous of his cousin Diego Castillo's favor in his father Anton's eyes, even expressing dissatisfaction with the naming of a highway after Diego rather than himself. However, he was given Cayo Villarreal as a private island, and he engaged in a life of immorality, holding drug-filled parties where he solicited both men and women.
Jose was later entrusted with managing the forced laborers who produced tobacco for Viviro on Yara's plantations, spraying the cancer-causing PG-240 over both tobacco fields and the laborers. The Familia Montero resisted the Castillo dynasty's land seizures and abuse of the peasantry, and Castillo assassinated their patriarch Carlos Montero with the help of the informant Miguel Delgado. As 80% of Castillo's soldiers were drawn from the peasantry, however, a significant number of them deserted to the rebels, as Montero was viewed as a martyr by many. Anton Castillo severely reprimanded Jose for his lack of judgment and had Diego shoot him in the rear with a pellet gun as punishment. Eager to put the Montero issue to rest, Castillo launched a surprise aerial attack on their ally Dani Rojas, but Rojas shot them down and Camila Montero put a grenade in his mouth, killing him. Only Anton, Diego, and two presidential guards attended Jose's funeral, and the guards insultingly poured gasoline over the church before Anton set everything on fire.
