Jorge Luis Ochoa

Jorge Luis Ochoa Vasquez (30 September 1950-) was one of the Ochoa Brothers and a founder of the Medellin Cartel. Jorge Luis and his brothers Juan David Ochoa and Fabio Ochoa became partners in the Medellin Cartel, and Ochoa spent eight years in prison from 1988 to 1996 for his trafficking activities.

Biography[]

Jorge Luis Ochoa Vasquez was born on 30 September 1950 in the city of Medellin, Colombia, the brother of Juan David Ochoa and Fabio Ochoa. In 1976, Jorge Luis took over the family business as a drug lord, and in 1981 he allied with Pablo Escobar, Jose Rodriguez Gacha, and Carlos Lehder to form the powerful Medellin Cartel. In 1984, he formed Muerte a Secuestradores (MAS) to avenge his sister's kidnapping by M-19, announcing the imminent execution of any guerrilla kidnappers. In 1984, he was arrested after becoming one of the most powerful cocaine smugglers in the world, and from 1986 to 1987 he was imprisoned in the United States and briefly in Spain in 1987. He was released from prison on 30 December 1987, and in January 1991 he surrendered to the Colombian government in exchange for a reduced sentence. He was released in 1996.
