Jonathan Jeffery

Jonathan Jeffrey (born 1983), also known as Abu Ibrahim al-Faransi, was a French Islamic State commander during the Syrian Civil War.

Biography[]

Jonathan Jeffrey was born in Toulouse, France in 1983, and he converted to Islam at some point in his life, later becoming affiliated with the extremist Salafist doctrine. Jeffrey decided to join the Islamic State in 2015, entering Syria from Turkey. Jeffrey became known as "Abu Ibrahim al-Faransi", and he recruited young Europeans into the group and plotted numerous terrorist attacks back in Europe. On 20 February 2017, Jeffrey was captured by the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army after the FSA liberated al-Bab from IS, and he was interrogated on film, revealing that he was a married Frenchman from Toulouse.
