Jonas Galusha

Jonas Galusha (11 February 1753-24 September 1834) was the Democratic-Republican Governor of Vermont from 14 October 1809 to 23 October 1813 (succeeding Isaac Tichenor and preceding Martin Chittenden) and from 14 October 1815 to 23 October 1820 (succeeding Chittenden and preceding Richard Skinner).

Biography[]

Jonas Galusha was born in Norwich, Connecticut in 1753, and he was raised in Salisbury, Connecticut and Shaftsbury, Vermont. He served as a captain in the Green Mountain Boys at the Battles of Saratoga during the American Revolutionary War, and he served as Sheriff of Bennington County from 1781 to 1787, on the Governor's Council from 1793 to 1798, as a county Assistant Judge from 1795 to 1798, as a judge from 1800 to 1806, as a Judge of the Vermont Supreme Court in 1807 and in 1808, and as Governor from 1809 to 1813 and from 1815 to 1820. He died in 1834.
