The Joliet Street alleyway shootout occurred in the spring of 2008 when the Spanish Lords gang and the McReary crime family engaged in a quick shootout after a drug deal went sour. The drug deal was set up by Puerto Rican drug baroness Elizabeta Torres, and Spanish Lords representative Ignacio Maroto and several other gangsters met with Patrick McReary and Peter O'Conrad in an alleyway off Joliet Street in South Bronx, The Bronx, New York City. Torres paid Niko Bellic $1,500 to watch over the drug deal from a nearby rooftop, giving him a sniper rifle so that he could ensure that McReary and O'Conrad were able to leave the deal with their lives. The Irishmen got into an argument with Maroto and his crew, leading to the Puerto Rican gangsters drawing guns; Bellic started firing, as did McReary and O'Conrad. All of the Spanish Lords were killed in the ensuing shootout, with one of them being shot through the windshield of his van after he attempted to escape.
