John de la Pole, 1st Earl of Lincoln (1462-16 June 1487) was a Yorkist leader during the Wars of the Roses.
Biography[]
John de la Pole was the son of John de la Pole, 2nd Duke of Suffolk and Elizabeth of York, Duchess of Suffolk. His uncle, King Edward IV of England, made him Earl of Lincoln in 1467, and he became a firm supporter of his uncle Richard III of England after the death of Edward IV. He became the nominal Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and he was made Duke of Cornwall, making him the de facto heir to the throne of England under King Richard. However, Richard lost the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, and De la Pole was forced to reconcile with the new Tudor regime. Two years later, he organized a major Yorkist rebellion, but he was defeated and killed at the Battle of Stoke.
