
John Wesley Longyear (22 October 1820-10 March 1875) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-MI 3) from 4 March 1863 to 3 March 1867 (succeeding Francis William Kellogg and preceding Austin Blair) and Judge of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan from 18 February 1870 to 10 March 1875 (succeeding Ross Wilkins and preceding Henry Billings Brown).
Biography[]
John Wesley Longyear was born in Shandaken, Ulster County, New York in 1820, and he moved to Mason, Ingham County, Michigan in 1844 and taught school before becoming a lawyer in 1846. He served in the US House of Representatives from 1863 to 1867 and as a district court judge from 1870 until his death in 1875.
