John William King (10 October 1916-9 August 1996) was the Democratic Governor of New Hampshire from 3 January 1963 to 2 January 1969, succeeding Wesley Powell and preceding Walter R. Peterson Jr..

Biography[]

John William King was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1916, and he practiced law in his hometown before serving in the State House and becoming New Hampshire's third Democratic governor in 88 years in 1963; he was a staunch supporter of President Lyndon B. Johnson and critic of Eugene McCarthy. Afterwards, he served on the state supreme court from 1979 to 1986.
