John Van Schaick Lansing Pruyn (22 June 1811-21 November 1877) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NY 14) from 4 March 1863 to 3 March 1865 (succeeding Erastus Corning and preceding Charles Goodyear) and from 4 March 1867 to 3 March 1869 (succeeding Goodyear and preceding Stephen L. Mayham).
Biography[]
John Van Schaick Lansing Pruyn was born in Albany, New York in 1811, and he became a lawyer in 1832 and partnered with his wife's uncle Erastus Corning. He became a major shareholder in the New York Central Railroad and served as President of the Albany Institute from 1851 to 1877, a State Senator from 1862 to 1863, in the US House of Representatives from 1863 to 1865 and from 1867 to 1869, and Chancellor of the University of the State of New York from 1868 to 1877. He died in 1877.
