John Swift politician

John Swift (27 June 1790 – 9 June 1873) was Mayor of Philadelphia (W) from 1832 to 1838 (succeeding Benjamin Wood Richards and preceding Isaac Roach), from 1839 to 1841 (succeeding Roach and preceding John Morin Scott), and from 1845 to 1849 (succeeding Peter McCall and preceding Joel Jones).

Biography[]

John Swift was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1790. He became a lawyer in 1810 and became a leader of the Whigs in the city, serving as Mayor from 1832 to 1838, from 1839 to 1841, and from 1845 to 1849. He died in 1873.
