
John Stuchell Fisher (25 May 1867-25 June 1940) was the Republican Governor of Pennsylvania from 18 January 1927 to 20 January 1931, interrupting Gifford Pinchot's terms.
Biography[]
John Stuchell Fisher was born in South Mahoning Township, Pennsylvania in 1867, and he worked a principal in Plumville and Indiana. He became a lawyer in 1893 and served as a Republican State Senator from 1901 to 1907, as State Commissioner of Banking from 1919 to 1922, and as Governor from 1927 to 1931. Fisher prioritized fiscal policy, public works, and conservation, and he introduced mechanical voting machines to eliminate voting fraud. He died in 1940.
