John James Rambo (6 July 1947-) was an American soldier who served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, eventually joining the Green Berets' Baker Team in September 1969, who operated in Laos, South Vietnam, Cambodia, and behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. Though captured by NVA forces in 1971 and tortured relentlessly, Rambo escaped a year later and rejoined the US forces, being discharged after a PTSD-induced breakdown.
Rambo was eventually the cause of the 1981 Hope manhunt after mistreatment by Hope, Washington sheriff Will Teasle and his officers, eventually surrendering to his former superior Colonel Samuel Trautman.
Rambo was then sentenced to 15 years in a labor camp prison, eventually being recruited by Trautman and CIA agent, Marshall Murdock in 1985 for a secret operation in Vietnam involving American POWs. He would accomplish this task, as well as a 1988 operation in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan War.
After this, Rambo retired and settled in Vietnam as a snake catcher until 2008, when he was hired to ferry missionary Michael Burnett's group to Burma for humanitarian aid. After this task was accomplished, Rambo went back after the missionaries were captured by Tatmadaw Major Pa Tee Tint, killing Tint's military detachment with the aid of a mercenary group and rescuing the missionaries. Rambo was eventually convinced to return home, and he settled in his hometown at his father's ranch.
In 2019, Rambo's adopted niece, Gabriela Beltran fled to Mexico to meet her dad, where she was kidnapped by the Martinez Cartel. He would eventually rescue her, only for Gabriela to die of a forced heroin overdose. He would then proceed to murder both Victor and Hugo Martinez in brutal fashion, before leaving his ranch behind.
Biography[]
Hope[]
In 1981, after visiting his deceased squad mate Delmar Barry's house outside of Hope, Washington, Rambo was harassed by Hope sheriff Will Teasle and eventually arrested for non-compliance.
At the station, he was treated poorly by the Hope Sheriff's Department officers, including deputy sheriff Art Galt. When being forced to shave, Rambo suffered a PTSD flashback and suddenly attacked the officers, eventually escaping the station. He escaped into the woods, evading police officers and accidentally causing the death of Galt with a thrown rock at his helicopter.
Angered at the loss of his friend, Teasle organized a manhunt of Rambo who proceeded to severely injure everyone hunting him, telling Teasle that he could have killed them all but didn't, asking him to let it go. After this, Teasle called in the US National Guard, as well as Colonel Samuel Trautman arriving at the command of JSOC to assist them in finding and capturing Rambo. Rambo briefly spoke with Trautman over the radio, Rambo explaining his situation and the circumstances. Though his superior asked him to surrender as he was virtually surrounded, Rambo refused and ended the radio call.
He would later run into a father and son out hunting, the National Guard spotting him and pursuing him to an abandoned mine. Refusing to surrender, the Guard fired a missile at the entrance, caving it in and seemingly killing Rambo. However, Rambo escaped from another entrance in the mine, before hijacking a supply truck and the M60 inside. He drove back to Hope at night, before distracting the authorities by blowing up a gas station, destroying the power supply, and blowing up a gun store. During the chaos, he infiltrated the police station and engaged in a brief firefight with Teasle, eventually shooting him down.
Before Rambo could kill him, Trautman appeared and attempted to convince Rambo to surrender. Rambo proceeded to break down into tears, talking about his longing for the war where he could drive anything or use million-dollar equipment in contrast to civilian life where he can barely hold a job.
He also spoke about both the brutal death of his friends and his homecoming with protestors spitting on him and praying for his death. He then surrendered, being taken into the custody of Washington state officials.
