John Robert French (28 May 1819-2 October 1890) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NC 1) from 6 July 1868 to 3 March 1869, preceding Clinton L. Cobb.

Biography[]

John Robert French was born in Gilmanton, New Hampshire in 1819, and he worked as publisher and associate editor for the New Hampshire Statesman. In 1854, he moved to Lake County, Ohio to further his journalism career, and he went on to serve in the State House from 1858 to 1860, in the US House of Representatives from 1868 to 1869, and as Sergeant at Arms of US Senate from 1869 to 1879. In his later years, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and then to Boise, Idaho, where he edited the Boise City Sun. He died in 1890.
