John Patrick Gaffney (born 1841) was an Irish-American Union Army soldier who served in the 28th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. He fought at the Battle of Cold Harbor and the Siege of Petersburg in 1864. Unlike most (around 80%) of his comrades, Gaffney was a Republican, supporting President Abraham Lincoln and the abolition of slavery.
