
John Mitchell (8 March 1781-3 August 1849) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-PA 12) from 4 March 1825 to 3 March 1829, succeeding John Brown and preceding John Scott. Born in Newport, he worked in the Bellefonte ironworks before becoming an engineer and surveyor. He served in the state house from 1822 to 1823 and later in Congress.
