John Meldrum (died 1645) was a Scottish Parliamentarian general during the English Civil War.
Biography[]
John Meldrum was born in Scotland, and he served the House of Stuart for 36 years, building the North and South Forelands Lighthouses in 1636. At the start of the English Civil War in 1642, however, Meldrum sided with the Parliamentarian cause against the royalist Cavaliers, and he was defeated by Prince Rupert of the Rhine at the Relief of Newark in 1644; however, later that year, he defeated a royalist cavalry force in the Battle of Ormskirk. He was killed during the siege of Scarborough Castle in 1645.
