John McIntyre (died 30 November 1984) was an American boat pilot, arms smuggler, and DEA informant who was murdered by Whitey Bulger in 1984.
Biography[]
John McIntyre, from Quincy, Massachusetts, worked as a boat pilot for years, and he was involved in arms and drug smuggling. McIntyre was also a snitch for the DEA and customs, and he once received $20,000 from customs to set up drug smuggler Joe Murray. In 1984, Irish Mob boss Whitey Bulger (who knew McIntyre since they were teenagers) entrusted him with piloting the boat Valhalla to Ireland with a shipment of arms for the IRA, but McIntyre told the DEA and customs about the shipment, leading to the Irish Navy intercepting it. Corrupt FBI agent John Connolly later found out about McIntyre's informant status, and he went to Bulger with this information.

Bulger and his crew lured McIntyre to a house on East Third Street in Boston, where they interrogated him about his role in informing on smuggling activities. Bulger attempted to strangle McIntyre, but the rope was too thick, so Bulger asked McIntyre if he wanted to be shot in the back of the head, to which McIntyre responded positively. Bulger shot him through the head, and proceeded to shoot him several more times to ensure that he was dead. His body was buried in the basement.
