John M. Davy

John Madison Davy (29 June 1835 – 21 April 1909) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NY 30) from 4 March 1875 to 3 March 1877, succeeding George Gilbert Hoskins and preceding Elizur K. Hart.

Biography[]

John Madison Davy was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1835, and his family moved to Rochester, New York in the year of his birth. He served in the Union Army during the American Civil War before becoming a lawyer in 1863, served as Monroe County district attorney from 1868 to 1872, as collector of customs at Genesee from 1872 to 1875, in the US House of Representatives from 1875 to 1877, and on the state supreme court from 1889 to 1905. He died in 1909.
