John Hunter (1750-30 December 1802) was a member of the US House of Representatives from South Carolina's 2nd district from 4 March 1793 to 3 March 1795, succeeding Robert Barnwell and preceding Wade Hampton I, and a US Senator from 8 December 1796 to 26 November 1798, succeeding Pierce Butler and preceding Charles Pinckney. He was a member of the Federalist Party.

Biography[]

John Hunter was born in South Carolina in 1750, and he became a plantation owner and operator. From 1786 to 1792, he served in the South Carolina House of Representatives, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1793 to 1795 and in the US Senate from 1796 to 1798. He returned to his plantations after leaving the US Congress, and he died in 1802.
