John Hoynes (born 1947) was Vice President of the United States from 1999 to 2003, preceding Bob Russell. His vice presidency and his 2006 presidential bids were both ruined by his sex scandals.
Biography[]
John Hoynes was born in Abilene, Texas in 1947, and he attended Southern Methodist University. Hoynes worked as a lawyer before becoming wealthy from the oil industry, and he became fluent in French. He later became a US Senator as a Democratic Party member. He was the frontrunner in the 1998 Democratic presidential primary, but he fell behind when his chief strategist, Josh Lyman, defected to Josiah Bartlet's presidential campaign due to Bartlet's stronger morals. Bartlet later convinced Hoynes to become his running mate, and he became Vice President in 1999. He supported technology use in rural areas, and he was reluctant to support gay marriage rights, while he also opposed gun control. Hoynes had a poor relationship with the President, his former rival, and he was forced to resign after disclosing classified information to his mistress. In 2006, he once more ran for President, but he was forced to end his campaign after a staffer went public with her previous affair with Hoynes.
