
John Hopkins Clarke (1 April 1789 – 23 November 1870) was a US Senator from Rhode Island (W) from 4 March 1847 to 3 March 1853, succeeding James F. Simmons and preceding Philip Allen.
Biography[]
John Hopkins Clarke was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1789, and he became a lawyer in Providence, Rhode Island in 1812. He worked as a judge, brewer, and cotton manufacturer before serving in the state house and in the US Senate, serving from 1847 to 1853. He died in 1870.
