John Hogan (2 January 1805 – 5 February 1892) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-MO 1) from 4 March 1865 to 3 March 1867, succeeding Samuel Knox and preceding William A. Pile.
Biography[]
John Hogan was born in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland in 1805, and he emigrated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1817 and became a licensed Methodist preacher by the age of 20. He moved to Madison, Illinois in 1831, served as President of the Illinois Board of Public Works from 1834 to 1837, served in the State House in 1836, and served as register of the land office at Dixon from 1841 to 1845. He then moved to St. Louis, Missouri and entered the wholesale grocery business, serving as Postmaster of St. Louis from 1857 to 1861 and serving in the US House of Representatives from 1865 to 1867. He died in 1892.
