John Hickman PA

John Hickman (11 September 1810-23 March 1875) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-PA 6) from 4 March 1855 to 3 March 1863, succeeding William Everhart and preceding John Dodson Stiles.

Biography[]

John Hickman was born in West Bradford Township, Pennsylvania in 1810, and he became a lawyer in West Chester in 1833. He served as Chester County district attorney from 1845 to 1846 and in the US House of Representatives from 1855 to 1863, originally as a Democrat, but later as a Republican due to his opposition to secession. He died in 1875.
