John Henry, Margrave of Moravia (12 February 1322-12 November 1375) was Count of Tyrol from 1335 to 1341 and Margrave of Moravia from 1349 to 1375 (succeeding Karl IV of Germany and preceding Jobst of Moravia).
Biography[]
John Henry was born on 12 February 1322, the third son of King John of Bohemia and Elizabeth of Bohemia, making him the younger brother of Karl IV of Germany. He married Margaret Maultasch of Tyrol in 1330, and in 1336 he was granted Tyrol when his father campaigned against the Dukes of Austria to conquer Tyrol. Karl IV acted as regent for the young John Henry, who was only fourteen when he inherited Tyrol. However, he had a strong aversion to his ugly wife, who led an insurgency against her husband and forced him out of Tyrol in 1341, securing Tyrol for the House of Wittelsbach as John Henry fled to the Patriarchate of Aquileia. In 1342, Margaret remarried to Louis V of Bavaria, and the embarrassed John Henry returned to Bohemia and married Margaret of Opava before becoming Margrave of Moravia. On John Henry's death in 1375, his son would become Margrave Jobst of Moravia.
