
John Fletcher Darby (10 December 1803 – 11 May 1882) was the Whig Mayor of St. Louis from 1835 to 1837 (succeeding John W. Johnson and preceding William Carr Lane) and from 1840 to 1841 (succeeding Lane and preceding John D. Daggett) and a member of the US House of Representatives (W-MO 1) from 4 March 1851 to 3 March 1853 (succeeding James B. Bowlin and preceding Thomas Hart Benton).
Biography[]
John Fletcher Darby was born in Person County, North Carolina in 1803, and he was raised in Frankfort, Kentucky before becoming a lawyer in St. Louis, Missouri. He served as Mayor from 1835 to 1837 and from 1840 to 1841, in the State Senate in 1838, and in the US House of Representatives from 1851 to 1853, and he died in 1882.
