John F. Schermerhorn (1801-) was a 19th-century American businessman from New York City.

John F. Schermerhorn was born in New York City, New York in 1801 to one of the oldest families in the state, descended from the original Dutch settlers. He lived in a mansion on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, and he was married to Barbara Schermerhorn and had a daughter, Lucy Schermerhorn. He became a member of the city's old Protestant, Republican establishment, befriending Horace Greeley and meeting William Cutting in 1862 while taking a tour of the Five Points slum. During the 1863 New York draft riots, his home was assaulted and looted by the rioters.
