
John Edwards (24 October 1815-8 April 1894) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-AR 3) from 4 March 1871 to 9 February 1872, interrupting Thomas Boles' terms.
Biography[]
John Edwards was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1815, and he became a lawyer in Lawrence, Indiana. He served in the State House from 1845 to 1846, became an alcalde in California in 1849, served in the Indiana State Senate from 1852 to 1854, founded the Patriot newspaper in 1857, served in the State House from 1858 to 1860, served as a Union Army colonel during the American Civil War, settled in Fort Smith, Arkansas during Reconstruction, served in the US House of Representatives from 1871 to 1872, was unseated after his election was challenged, and died in Washington DC in 1894.
