John Elliott Pillsbury (15 December 1846-30 December 1919) was a US Navy Rear-Admiral who served in the American Civil War, the United States expedition to Korea, and the Spanish-American War.

Biography[]

John Elliott Pillsbury was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1846, and he became a midshipman in the US Navy in 1862 and an ensign in 1868. He served on the USS Colorado during the United States expedition to Korea in 1871, and he commanded the coast steamer USS Blake from 1884 to 1891 and the cruiser USS Vesuvius off the coast of Cuba during the Spanish-American War in 1898. He went on to serve as Chief of Staff of the North Atlantic Fleet in 1905 and Chief of the Bureau of Navigation from 1908 to 1909, when he retired. He died in 1919.
