John Drayton (22 June 1766-27 November 1822) was the Democratic-Republican Governor of South Carolina from 23 January 1800 to 8 December 1802 (succeeding Edward Rutledge and preceding James Burchill Richardson) and from 10 December 1808 to 8 December 1810 (succeeding Charles Pinckney and preceding Henry Middleton.
Biography[]
John Drayton was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1766, and he was educated in London. He practiced law in Charleston before serving as Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina from 1798 to 1800, as Governor from 1800 to 1802 and from 1808 to 1810, in the South Carolina Senate from 1805 to 1808, and as a Judge of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina from 1812 until his death in 1822.
