John Dawson (1762-31 March 1814) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-VA 15) from 4 March 1797 to 4 March 1803 (succeeding James Madison and preceding John Randolph of Roanoke), from VA-10 from 4 March 1803 to 3 March 1813 (succeeding Edwin Gray and preceding Aylett Hawes), and from VA-11 from 4 March 1813 to 31 March 1814 (succeeding John Roane and preceding Philip Pendleton Barbourg).
Biography[]
John Dawson was born in Virginia in 1762, and he was a good friend of James Madison. He served in the House of Delegates from 1786 to 1789, in the Continental Congress in 1788, and in the US House of Representatives from 1797 to 1814, when he died. During the War of 1812, he served as an aide-de-camp to Generals Jacob Brown and Andrew Jackson.
