John Davis Lodge

John Davis Lodge (20 October 1903-29 October 1985) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-CN 4) from 3 January 1947 to 3 January 1951 (succeeding Clare Boothe Luce and preceding Albert P. Morano) and Governor of Connecticut from 3 January 1951 to 5 January 1955 (succeeding Chester B. Bowles and preceding Abraham Ribicoff).

Biography[]

John Davis Lodge was born in Washington DC in 1903, the grandson of Henry Cabot Lodge, the great-great-grandson of Elijah H. Mills, Frederick T. Frelinghuysen, and John Davis, the great-great-great grandson of George Cabot and Frederick Frelinghuysen, and the brother of Henry Cabot Lodge Jr.. He became a lawyer in New York City in 1932, and he worked as an actor from 1933 to 1942, as a lieutenant commander in the US Navy during World War II, in the US House of Representatives from 1947 to 1951, as Governor of Connecticut from 1951 to 1955, as Ambassador to Spain from 1955 to 1961, as Ambassador to Argentina from 1969 to 1973, and as Ambassador to Switzerland in 1983. He died in 1985.
