John Clinton Porter (4 April 1871-27 May 1959) was the Democratic Mayor of Los Angeles from 1 July 1929 to 1 July 1933, succeeding George E. Cryer and preceding Frank L. Shaw.
Biography[]
John Clinton Porter was born in Leon, Iowa in 1871, and he later settled in Los Angeles, California. He became a member of the Ku Klux Klan, and, while serving as Mayor from 1929 to 1933, he became known for his xenophobic Protestant populism. He died in 1959.
