John Baron (born 21 June 1959) was the Conservative Party MP for Basildon and Billericay from 8 June 2001 to 30 May 2024, succeeding Teresa Gormanand preceding Richard Holden.
Biography[]
John Baron was born in Redhill, Surrey, England in 1959, and he served as a British Army captain in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, and Germany before becoming a merchant banker. In 1995, he became Treasurer of the Streatham Conservative Association, and he was elected the Conservative Party MP for Basildon in 2001. He was a staunch Eurosceptic who often rebelled against his party, and it was rumored that he considered defecting to UKIP in 2014.
