John Bassett Alley (7 January 1817-19 January 1896) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-MA 6) from 4 March 1859 from 3 March 1863 (succeeding Timothy Davis and preceding Daniel W. Gooch) and MA-5 from 4 March 1863 to 3 March 1867 (succeeding Samuel Hooper and preceding Benjamin F. Butler).
Biography[]
John Bassett Alley was born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1817, and he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1836 and ran a freight business; he later returned to Lynn to run a shoemaking business. He went on to serve in the Governor's Council from 1847 to 1850, in the State Senate in 1852, and in the US House of Representatives from 1859 to 1867 (as a Free Soiler and a Republican). He died in 1896.
