John A

John Andrew Peters (13 August 1864-22 August 1953) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-ME 3) from 9 September 1913 to 2 January 1922 (succeeding Forrest Goodwin and preceding John E. Nelson), a Judge of the US District Court for the District of Maine from 14 November 1921 to 2 January 1947 (succeeding Clarence Hale and preceding John David Clifford Jr.), and a Senior Judge of the US District Court for the District Court of Maine from 2 January 1947 to 1 January 1953.

Biography[]

John Andrew Peters was born in Ellsworth, Maine in 1864, a nephew of Republican congressman John A. Peters. He practiced law in Ellsworth from 1887 to 1913 before serving as a Judge of the Ellsworth Municipal Court from 1896 to 1908, a State Representative in 1909, 1911, and 1913, a member of the US House of Representatives from 1913 to 1922, and a district court judge from 1921 to 1953, when he retired and died months later.
