
Johann Jakob, Count of Bronckhorst and Anholt (12 February 1582-19 October 1630) was an Imperial field marshal who served in the Thirty Years' War.
Biography[]
Johann Jakob von Bronckhorst was born in Burg Anholt in 1582, and he joined the Spanish Army in 1603 and became a colonel in the Imperial army in 1609. He served as a regimental commander during the Thirty Years' War, and he fought at the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 and became a count in 1621 and a field marshal in 1622. In 1622-1623, he fought against Ernst von Mansfeld in Westphalia, and he commanded the vanguard at the Battle of Stadtlohn, participated in the Siege of Breda in 1624, and became Governor of Alsace in 1629. He died of tuberculosis in Freiburg in 1630.
