Joe Gould

Joe Gould (13 August 1896-21 April 1950) was an American boxing manager who was best known for representing James J. Braddock, the "Cinderella Man".

Biography[]

Joe Gould was born in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1896 to a Jewish family, and he met the amateur boxer James J. Braddock at Joe Jeanette's gym in Hoboken in 1925. In 1926, with Gould as his manager, Braddock turned pro, and Gould played a key role in forging Braddock's phenomenal comeback in 1934. Gould enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served as a lieutenant in the Pacific, but he was court-martialled and sentenced to three years for conspiracy to accept bribes. He died of leukemia in 1950.
