John "Jock" Cranley (born 30 July 1952) was an American US Republican Party politician and formed stunt double in several 1980s action movies. Cranley ran for Governor of California in 2013 against schoolteacher Sue Murry, and he was an anti-education and anti-taxes candidate.

Biography[]

Cranley was born to an English-American family in Blaine County, California, and wanted to pursue a career in acting, aspiring to become a famous person in the 1970s. But his wife Jolene Cranley-Evans objected to leaving for the bustling city life of Los Angeles, so while hiking on Mount Gordo, he threw his wife off the cliff. The LAPD arrested him but later released him without charge due to the lack of evidence of the murder. In the 1980s he starred in the movies "Nighthawk 5", "The Mainframe", and "18-Wheeler Deathrace", as well as the hit television show Stunt Double. He was arrested in Miami in 1986 for drug problems, but he claimed that it was a stunt double; he later admitted to "having drug problems in the past".

Later, Cranley became involved in politics with the US Republican Party. He advocated selling off park lands to eliminate taxes and planned to reduce the education budget by 98%. Cranley attempted to humiliate his opponent, the Democrat Sue Murry, by calling her profane names, and was known by many people to be a rude person. He said that the government treated the people well too long and that while others extended a helping hand, he gave the people the finger. In his radio advertisements, Cranley told the people about how the other candidates would betray their expectations when they were elected, while he stated that people would know him for what he was.
