
Joaquim Rodrigues Torres (13 December 1802-8 January 1872) was Prime Minister of Brazil from 11 May 1852 to 6 September 1853 (succeeding Jose da Costa Carvalho and preceding Honorio Hermeto Carneiro Leao) and from 16 July 1868 to 29 September 1870 (succeeding Zacarias de Gois and preceding Jose Antonio Pimenta Bueno).
Biography[]
Joaquim Rodrigues Torres was born in Itaborai, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1802, and he was educated in Europe and worked as a teacher before entering politics with the Liberal Party of Brazil. In 1837, he defected to the Conservative Party of Brazil, and he served as a senator from 1844 to 1872 and as Prime Minister from 1852 to 1853 and from 1868 to 1870. He died in 1872 at the age of 69.
