Joao Joares (1964-2008) was a Brazilian Labor Party deputy from 2007. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies amid a critical landslide victory for the PTB. Following the 2008 presidential election, he decided to join the PMDB due to his opposition to Brenda Moreira's fiscal conservative policies. He was found shot to death a week later, and his death was the third such to involve the murder of a PTB defector.
