
Joanna Grey (1901-1943) was a South African Nazi sympathizer and Abwehr agent living in Studley Constable. Her codename is Starling.
Biography[]
Grey was born in Blomfontein, Orange Free State. Daughter of a Scottish and Boer family. Her mother died of starvation in a British Concentration Camp in 1902. She joined the Nazi Party in 1923, in a visit to Germany. In 1943, she lived in England working as a spy. When the mission of capture Winston Churchill failed, she tried to escape but she was killed by an American soldier.
