Jiro Tamon (28 September 1878 – 24 November 1934) was a Lieutenant-General of the Imperial Japanese Army during the Russo-Japanese War, Russian Civil War, and the Invasion of Manchuria.
Biography[]
Jiro Tamon was born on 28 September 1878 in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, and he graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1898 before serving in the Russo-Japanese War. In 1909, he graduated from the Army Staff College, and he commanded the "Tamon Task Force" during the Siberian Intervention of the Russian Civil War, leading it in the relief of Nikolayevsk-on-Amur. In 1930, Tamon was promoted to Lieutenant-General and given command of the IJA 2nd Division, and he was one of the key commanders of the Japanese forces during the 1931 invasion of Manchuria. He was relieved of command in 1933 and died in 1934.
