Jiro Honjo (died December 2016) was a Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) detective and a colleague of Makoto Date.
Biography[]
Jiro Honjo was born in Tokyo, Japan, and he joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) and became a detective and colleague of Makoto Date. Compared to Date, Honjo took a more no-nonsense and by-the-book approach to solving his cases. In December 2016, he met with Kazuma Kiryu at the Touto University Hospital after his adoptive daughter Haruka Sawamura was critically injured in a vehicular hit-and-run. Honjo reluctantly took Kiryu to visit the crime scene as a favor to Date, and the two deduced that Haruka must have been hit by accident, as the driver had not stopped to verify her death. He later reported to the scene of Shu Tatsukawa's murder, and he suspected the Saio Triad, although he also suggested that Kiryu could be responsible and was simply trying to frame the Saio. Not long after, Tsuneo Iwami used his connections in the TMPD to find out the place where Date was hiding Haruka and her son Haruto Sawamura, and he used those connections into fooling Honjo into thinking that Date was detaining Haruka against her will. Honjo and a few officers headed to the police hospital and attempted to arrest Date for kidnapping, only for Honjo's coworkers to reveal themselves to be Tsuneo's thugs. The men then shot Honjo dead and shot Date in the shoulder before kidnapping Haruka for the Yomei Alliance.
