
James Henry Martin (10 August 1927-14 May 2005) was an American bluegrass and country singer-songwriter. Born in Sneedville, Tennessee, he became a musician in Nashville in 1949 and became known for his exuberant personality. He came to be known as the "King of Bluegrass", and he was perhaps most famous for his 1969 song "Freeborn Man". He died of cancer in 2005 at the age of 77. Martin was a Republican.
