Jimmie Gunnarrsson (1993-) was Prime Minister of Sweden from 2019, succeeding Agnes Mansson.

Biography[]

Jimmie Gunnarrsson was born in Vasteras, Sweden in 1993, and he worked as a lawyer before being elected to the Riksdag in 2018 as a Moderate Party MP. In 2019, he led his party to place second in the general election (behind the Sweden Democrats), and he was elected Prime Minister in a vote of 11-3. The Riksdag voted 7-22 in favor of a child benefit program, 8-3 to approve a stamp duty, 18-0 in favor of an ambulance service, 12-3 in favor of a public smoking ban, 10-5 in favor of road maintenance, 7-2 in favor of legalizing prostitution, and 9-5 in favor of universal healthcare. The ensuing election saw the Sweden Democrats remain in second place with 14.48% of the vote and 3 seats, behind the Moderates with 15.03% and 3 seats. He won re-election with 14 votes to Lotta Ulvaeus' 6. The government backed the 6-5 vote to abolish the national ambulance service, and the Riksdag also voted 10-3 to abolish the stamp duty, 9-6 in favor of protest prohibition, and 12-3 to abolish public libraries. The ensuing election saw the Left Party of Sweden win 4 seats, and the Sweden Democrats placed a close second.
