Jim Geringer

James Edward Geringer (24 April 1944-) was the Republican Governor of Wyoming from 2 January 1995 to 6 January 2003, succeeding Mike Sullivan and preceding Dave Freudenthal.

Biography[]

James Edward Geringer was born in Wheatland, Wyoming in 1944, the son of a German immigrant from Saratov Oblast and his Swedish-American wife. He served in the US Air Force from 1967 to 1991 and worked at a power generating station in Wheatland before serving in the State House from 1983 to 1989, in the State Senate from 1989 to 1995, and as Governor from 1995 to 2003. He regulated class action lawsuits, reformed bankruptcy laws, toughened crime laws, legalized charter schools, and lowered taxes, while supporting liberal policies on women's rights and the environment.
