Jim Clyburn

Jim Clyburn (born 21 July 1940) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-SC 6) from 3 January 1993, succeeding Robin Tallon.

Biography[]

Jim Clyburn was born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1940, and he worked as a high school teacher in Charleston before entering politics as an advisor to Governor John C. West. In 1992, he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democratic Party member, representing predominantly African-American areas of the state. From 2007 to 2011, he served as House Majority Whip.
