Jia Sidao (1213-1275) was Grand Chancellor of Song China from 1260 to 1275.
Biography[]
Jia Sidao was born in Taizhou, Zhejiang, Song China in 1213, the younger brother of concubine Jia Meilin. Through his sister's status as Emperor Lizong of Song's favorite concubine, he was able to rise in the ranks of the court and become Grand Chancellor in 1260, and he was known to be corrupt and impotent. He earned the special favor of Emperor Duzong of Song, and he went against the will of the pro-small-government Confucian scholars by pioneering land nationalization during the 1260s. He later led troops during the Siege of Xiangyang, but he failed to relieve the city, and Empress Xie Daoqing had he and his family banished before having him assassinated.
